( it had been a strange few weeks for kirie but eventually the shock of being in a strange new place wore off [slightly] and kirie grew into a routine. she would wake up in the morning, prepare food for her and shuichi, go to work, and look into her new registration status. it came with perks, something she needed to do in order to help herself and shuichi. she had yet to take any missions on but for now it meant she had some spending money and was able to find out where shuichi was staying.
kirie spent her new money on getting cooking supplies, bento box knock offs and food. she began to prepare meals for shuichi; three for each day of the week and included two bottles of water a day for him, and some desserts. the meals varied from day to day although some were repeated.
although they were housed in different areas, she was able to mail him a large box packed tightly with ice packets.
inside the package was a note, one that would come with all of the meal packages she would send him. each one would be different, but this read in japanese:

It's hard for me to come to terms with everything that has happened to us, including ending up here. But I'm trying to do my best to adapt to everything here. I'm finding my job to be rather easy and it helps that I can practice on myself-
I never told you but I discovered a new power. I can grow my hair out and retract it back. It was scary at first but I realized I had complete control over it! I can even pick up things and people with it.
Anyways I hope you're taking care of yourself and eating properly. Please make sure you place the food in the freezer and take it out at least half an hour before eating. I wasn't able to find everything you like but I hope you enjoy it.
I want you to know I really do care about you....and thank you for taking care of me all of those times. I'm going to work hard as a hairdresser and I've decided to become a hero so I can protect you. I really do adore you Shuichi.
[While putting off mail was easy for him, it was a great deal harder to do when he noticed they were from her. Despite his anxiety and preference to stay indoors, he'd get them and open them, receiving her prepared meals with a degree of thoughtfulness that had him staring into the boxes for long periods of time before putting things away.]
[Of course he ate them. Of course he ate every meal. Even if he was against her visiting him and only spoke to her through voice or text, her presence there was enough to force regular meals into his life if nothing else. He managed his own job now too, especially since he could do most of it indoors at home...
It made him gaunt, pale, yet his appetite grew as Kirie continued to do this, never once questioning it or telling her not to, he knew her- he knew if she wanted to do something, she'd do it, and not due to some burden. She had always been that way.]
[He read each note as well and when he received his latest one he scanned it, hunched over in his dark bedroom with the box set on his bed next to him. As each word was taken in he found himself sucked into the moment. He read it and the room faded away, clinging to the paper with her hand writing. Once he finished, his shoulders slumped and for a long time he stared at it, not moving. He thought of.... he thought of his mother. His father- everyone, infact, that he had ever known before. Her parents as well. All of them were gone but her.]
[His head slumped and after another long period of still silence, he picked up his phone and called her.]
( when he had called, kirie had been in the middle of doing some exercises she had found in a book at her place. she was trying her best to live up to the role of a hero and that included working out and becoming both physically and mentally stronger.
because of this, the phone rings a bit until kirie finally hears it. she managed to pick it up at the last ring, her breathing heavy when she speaks. )
[He waits for it... listening to the droning of that ring before finally she picks up. After a short pause he speaks, staring down towards where the note lay limply on his bed.]
Yes. I just missed you. What are you doing right now?
the words ring in her ears, her face instantly becoming red. she wasn’t a very bashful girl, her emotions simple and all that. still the thought of shuichi saying such a thing to her made her feel....good.
it made her feel wanted. )
I missed you too. I was actually working out, I found some exercises and thought I’d try them out.
[He takes her words with a good degree of silence. He- he knew all of this. He knew it because of what they went through, and he knew it because it was mutual. But she was definitely in a far better position to do it for him. It made his features sink slightly, his form as if melting into the darkness of the room.
A hero then. He thought it a little strange but not far fetched for her yet- her reasoning here made... a lot of sense. It made him feel a little guilty too. Hadn't he been keeping himself hidden away to protect her? But it felt strangely selfish now.
They had always done things together. Run away, stay, fight, survive.]
[He found himself clenching the phone a little tighter.]
( his words came as an interesting surprise, one that made her remain quiet for a few moments.
she couldn't believe he had actually said that and a part of her was excited. though a small wave of worry came over her- didn't he say he had issues with his powers?
still she trusted him and knew he knew what he was doing. )
I'm tied up with some stuff right now and I think we aren't even in the same state...but I'd like that. How about towards the end of the month? I'll figure out how to get to you.
[He'd be happy she was feeling worried as well. Finally she did, Kirie was unflappable but it could be to a fault sometimes. He worried for that, for her not noticing things and getting into some degree of trouble. But, he wouldn't have said what he had if he hadn't meant it.]
There's teleporters I think. One of us can figure out how to use them... or both. They make traveling easier between imPort cities.
We can use them, when the time is write. But I really think we should. My roommates are fine I just-

he had his moments of tenderness sure, but this? it was absolutely warming to hear. it made her blush a bit, feeling like a normal girl for once. she wanted nothing more but to be in his arms as soon as possible.
